INSA Strasbourg has the status of an EPSCP, a public scientific, cultural or professional establishment. The school was founded in 1875 and became part of the INSA network in 2003.
INSA Strasbourg has 1300 students in its campus in the Esplanade district of Strasbourg, just a few minutes from the city centre, in the heart of the European capital.

When the school became INSA Strasbourg in 2003, it also became part of the INSA network which comprises five grandes écoles of applied sciences: Lyon, Rennes, Rouen, Toulouse and Strasbourg.

Alsace Tech was founded in March 2007, and comprises nine Alsace-based grandes écoles of engineering and business.
Its prime aim is to promote its member schools and to encourage interest in science and technology in young people.
Membership of this network helps secure INSA's regional and national identity.
