Master’s title: Imaging, Robotics and Biomedical Engineering (IRIV)

The central theme of the Imaging, Robotics and Biomedical Engineering (IRIV) master’s course is imaging: algorithmics, visual servoing, image processing and analysis, medical imaging, photonics, photogrammetry and 3D laser scanning. On average about 150 students a year take the IRIV master’s.

The IRIV master’s is attached to the ICube research unit, and most of the lecturers come from the unit. It also offers a large number of M2 placements every year.

This master’s course is co-accredited by INSA Strasbourg, Télécom Physique Strasbourg and the University of Strasbourg.  INSA Strasbourg is the lead for the Surveying engineering and photogrammetry strand.

Training

This master’s is a multidisciplinary, research and innovation-oriented course focused on scientific imaging. It trains students in image processing and analysis, signal processing, control of complex systems, robotics, design and development of optical and nanophotonic systems, surveying engineering and photogrammetry.

who can apply ?

The Automatic Controls and Robotics (AR) and Surveying Engineering and Photogrammetry (Topo) strands are open to students who have completed:

  • a master’s year 1 in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics or plastics engineering (for the AR strand);
  • a master’s year 1 in surveying engineering (for the Topo strand).

Students who have completed any other course at M1 or M2 level may also be admitted via the equivalence system, subject to a review of their academic record by the admissions board to check that they meet the necessary pre-conditions.

Foreign applicants who hold an equivalent qualification will need to prove that they have an adequate command of the French language (level F B2).

INSA Strasbourg offers an intensive French as a Foreign Language course for students starting from level B1 in the second half of August.

Automatic Controls and Robotics (AR) strand

The AR strand offers teaching focused on advanced control techniques (optimal control, robust control, model predictive control, nonlinear control), robotics (robotic manipulation and mobile robots), on computer vision (image processing and visual servoing), as well as an introduction to industrial data processing (real-time and embedded systems, industrial networks).

Surveying Engineering and Photogrammetry (Topo) strand

Skills

The Topo strand aims to impart the following skills to students:

  • implementing spatial data acquisition systems (images and point clouds),
  • designing, evaluating and optimising a spatial data acquisition and processing system,
  • structuring, representing and visualising geographic information,
  • 3D modelling of urban environments and built heritage.

Openings

Students who complete the IRIV master’s go on to occupy research and development posts in the R&D departments of large industrial groups or they work in development in high-potential tech startups.
