Prérequis

Course in english for students with initial knowledge in manufacturing techniques ("Fabrication 1, "MSP" at INSA) and design ("Construction 1", "Construction 2"). The course is part of "Parcours 4" dedicated to Design for Robotics, for students in Mechanical Engineering Department, 4th year.


Objectif

Knowledge on additive manufacturing: associated technologies, advantages and limitations.
At the end of the class, the students are also expected to be able to propose part design taking advantage of additive manufacturing (design for additive manufacturing), and to position this manufacturing technique with respect to other manufacturing techniques.


Programme

Presentation of main additive manufacturing processes
Functional analysis of the proceses, advantages and limits of the different techniques
Design for AM: impact of additive manufacturing selection, comparison with other manufacturing techniques using case-based analysis
Evolution of technologies, R&D in the domain of additive manufacturing


Compétences attendues

To analyse the main characteristics of an additive manufacturing process
For the design of a part or assembly, to be able to suggest process/material association and compatible shapes
To be able to position additive manufacturing processes with respect to conventional processes
